At the 2022 International Symposium on EMC+SIPI, EMC Society Young Professionals (YP) will once again be hosting a few fun and exciting events. ALL EMC Society members and attendees of the symposium are welcome (not only the YPs!).

We look forward to holding these events in person in beautiful Spokane, Washington, with some hybrid/online component to the events (more on this below). Join us for these events in 2022!

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS NETWORKING EVENTS:

Best Student Paper Candidates
5 Minute Webinar Competition and Social Event
Tentative Date/Time: Friday, July 29th at 12:30-2:00PM

In 2021, we held a webinar competition and social event via WebEx.  We will hold this once again as a WebEx event with the best student paper candidates for the 2022 Symposium.  This event is FREE to all who are interested in attending.  Watch this website for the 2022 date and time (expected to be held in late July).  In the meantime, below is a summary of last year’s webinar competition:

In 2021, we decided to change up the 5 Minute Best Paper Candidate Webinar competition and asked the Best Student Paper Candidates to participate.  These talented students (and recent graduates) shared their work in only 5 minutes, and attendees at the live event were able to vote for their favorite condensed presentation.  All of the candidates did a phenomenal job and I was extremely impressed by their ability to summarize complex paper topics in a clear and concise manner.  We had close to 30 attendees and ended up with a tie in both the EMC Paper and SIPI Paper categories!

Favorite EMC Paper Presentation – Two way tie between Gaussian Process Regression Analysis of Passive Intermodulation Level and DCR for Spring Contacts, presented by Shengxuan Xia of Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST), and, SEED Modeling of an ESD Gun Discharge to a USB Cable Surrogate, presented by Yang Xu of MST.

Favorite SIPI Paper Presentation – Three way tie between Design and Analysis of On-package Inductor of an Integrated Voltage Regulator for High-Q Factor and EMI Shielding in Active Interposer Based 2.5D/3D ICs, presented by Subin Kim of KAIST, Continuous Time Model of Current Mode Buck Converter with Adaptive On-time Controller for Power Delivery Network Design, presented by Anfeng Huang of MST, and Decoupling Capacitor Optimization to Achieve Target Impedance in PCB PDN Design, presented by Shuang Liang of MST.

EMC+SIPI Jeopardy! Event

At our popular Jeopardy/Trivia events in years past, we’ve tested our knowledge of all things EMC+SIPI and learned about the various opportunities available to us as YPs in the EMC Society, in our local Chapters, and within the various Technical Committees and Standards Committees.  In 2021, Trivia was played using Kahoot!, which enabled a seamless interactive virtual Trivia experience, with participants from North America, Europe and Asia. We enjoyed the Kahoot! platform and top contestants were awarded prizes!

During the 2022 Symposium, back by popular demand, we will hold “EMC+SIPI Jeopardy!” – Trivia, with a Twist!  This event is great at building your expertise in EMC+SIPI as well as providing a welcoming, informal environment to network with YP colleagues and experienced professionals alike.
Plan to join us! $35 registration with food included.
Monday, August 1st, 7-10PM

Location: The Onion (Downtown)

Evening Networking Event

Get to know your fellow Young Professionals in a casual setting after the Evening Gala. This is a great time to continue the conversations started during the Gala or to introduce your friends. Relationships formed in the EMC Society can lead to future collaborations on projects and will provide valuable contacts when you need a friend to bounce ideas off.

$20 registration includes One Drink!
Wednesday, August 3rd, 9:30 - 11:30 PM
Location: Flatstick Pub

Looking Forward

If you’re interested in participating and contributing to the EMC Society YP initiative, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at ieeeypemc@gmail.com.  We’re actively seeking more regional representatives so we can expand our global presence, and also seeking help with Social Media and maintenance of our content on the EMC Society webpage.  We all work together on events, such as those at the annual symposia or otherwise.

I’m excited to return to the in-person EMC+SIPI symposium and look forward to seeing you in Spokane!
